To be clear here: It's not their goal to be modular! It's the other way around: they have a modular design to have better repairability and long lasting devices! They sometimes offer updated camera updates, but only because they can, not because it's in their ideology. They will never produce a phone where you can switch the CPU - this does not make sense if you don't want to reinvent how smartphones work. I will not be surprised if in 1-2 years, there will be a Fairphone 4 with 5G. You cannot put an i5 on an Core2Duo mainboard, sometimes you need to have new interfaces. I'm completely fine that all 4-5 years they will design a new phone. I don't need a 5G phone in the next 2 years, but maybe other do. And maybe in 4 years my carier disables 4G and then I will maybe buy a used Fairphone 4.
