📈 A clear Definition of Done isn’t just good for the present—it prepares you for the future. A well-defined, well-executed task makes future modifications and scaling far easier. 📊

@polka Short-term profit and academia seem at odds? Companies come and go but science needs persistence over time. Academic libraries seem ideally posed for that—any repository of curated protocols in an academic library would outlive even the university that hosts it.

Like someone said, in a memorable display of black humour: in the long run, we are all dead.

Human nature hasn't changed in 30 years. Or in ~2,500–hence Euripides' theatre plays remain as poignant and relevant today as they were when premiered in the theatre of Dionysus in Athens. Calvin and Hobbes have that atemporal nature, yet the cartoons are deeply framed within the decadent suburban lifestyle of the 80's and 90's in the USA, just like Euripides are framed in Classical Greece.

@ChrisMayLA6 @Judeet88 Poignant observation. We are very much lacking an institution for long term thinking. To foster awareness and skills for long term planning in schools; and with retroactive veto power over laws when these show net negatives on the climate over the long term.

"A sign that the software engineering profession has matured will be that we lose our preoccupation with the first release and focus on the long-term health of our products."

Mind you… we can also prognosticate on what GOOD federated networks could do for the world too! Like… could platform a global movement like or serve democratic agency for citizens in Iran, Palestine, Hong Kong? I am inclined to think the fediverse will be ruined by capricious capitalism but y’know… we *could* try being kind & minimalist for a few thousand generations for a change?

Recalling Twitter’s halcyon days - when it was the delight of microblogging nerdy types: and seeing the giddy shroom highs that people seem to be experiencing in right now (Likening it to the early days of socials). Where you think it could “go wrong” for the across the next two decades? Money, power, greed, politics, capricious humanity?

If we can see any problems now, we can prepare for & minimise them, right?
