As it happens, the song is about the West Indies cricket team's first ever win in England (in 1950). Also, Lord Beginner was - along with fellow calypsonians Lord Kitchener and Lord Woodbine - one of the 802 Caribbean people on the first great voyage of the Windrush in 1948.
