@tombradleyjr Another obvious example not mentioned in the article is Dorothy Sayers' Lord Peter Wimsey mystery 'The Five Red Herrings', one of my favourites due to the Scottish setting and the satire on the Kirkcudbright Artists' Colony.

@d4doome Yes, I agree entirely about Ian Carmichael. One of my all-time favourite actors. And I suspect had he been a decade younger, he would have pulled off the Death Breedon pretense a bit better.

It really was a shame that Carmichael's two best-known roles were each a decade late. He should have been in his 30s playing Bertie Wooster and in his 40s when playing Wimsey, but Carmichael's skills and charm as an actor carried him through magnificently.

Murder Must Advertise, from the BBC's 1972-75 Lord Peter Wimsey TV series based on Dorothy L. Sayers' novels, takes a remarkably jaundiced view of the world of the Bright Young Things.

Ian Carmichael was easily the best-ever screen Lord Peter.

@Inge oh, I want this book, how wonderful! Didn’t know it existed!

I’m currently deep in still, reading about the lime kilns. And when I’m not doing that, reading Dorothy L. Sayers and Robert Eustace, “The Documents in the Case.” Another , but without my beloved .

My beloved mysteries, from start to finish, yet again. As I clear out books I no longer need, I reward myself with a new book from this series, in the matching edition. Definitely my

In no particular order:

1. Gaudy Night by Dorothy L. Sayers

2. A Civil Campaign by Lois McMaster Bujold

3. The Truth by Terry Pratchett (but really, ALL of Discworld)

4. Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy by John Le Carre

5. This Immortal by Roger Zelazny

6. Imzadi by Peter David

7. The Complete Poems of Constantine Cavafy (trans. by Rae Dalven)
