In the 15th Century, the Lord's Prayer was extended to include the words: “For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory. Forever, and ever” by William Tynsdale. He scribed these words as a pledge of loyalty to the British king & the British Empire, much like the U.S. Pledge of Allegiance pledges loyalty to the United States government and China’s Oath of Loyalty pledges fealty to the China’s Communist Party.

My husband, who is not in the least religious, recommended this to me. It resonates in some ways due to my own recent bereavement.

My (lack of) faith is unchanged, and I have issues with the idea of god as father, but I share it here anyway because it's quite nice.

When I was a little kid I really thought it went "Our Father who aren't in heaven."

Honestly.

The other way just didn't make any sense to me. I mean, God is with us all the time, it’s what I was taught in Sunday School, so why would we say that God's just up in heaven having a laugh at our expense?

So I would pray it that way?
“Our Father who aren't in heaven…” said something more real about the God I believed in.

“Pray, then, in this way:

‘Our Father, who is in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
‘Your kingdom come,
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
‘Give us this day our daily bread.
‘And forgive us our debts, as we have forgiven our debtors [letting go of both the wrong and the resentment].
‘And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. [For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.]’
Matthew 6:9-13
