It was discovered in 1987 by a heavy equipment operator excavating gravel from a Gray Cloud Island gravel deposit ~125 feet below the original surface!

Here is a nice collection of bison remains from the West Hennepin History Center in Long Lake Minnesota.

The collection was found during road work near Hgwy(s) 169 & 494 in Southern Hennepin County.

Found during some road work near Hgwy(s) 169 & 494 they were donated in the summer of 2000.

for ! 🐂🦥🐴🐘🐪🐟 This mammoth tooth, a partial tusk, a bison jaw, and a mastodon tooth can all be seen at the Houston Nature Center.

All were found in Houston County, which is in the Midwest’s glacial “Driftless Area”. An area, which includes a portion of southeastern Minnesota, that was never covered by ice during the last ice age.

It’s ! 🍃🦣🦥🐴🐪🦬🐟 Back up 95 million years from last Friday’s skull cap - here are some Cretaceous leaf fossils found along the Cottonwood River while working with staff from the Science Museum of Minnesota.

These fossils were found within a patchy broken stratum of Cretaceous-age sandstone and clay.

More for ! 🐂🦥🐴🐘🐪🐟 I ran across this large bison skull cap at the Houston Nature Center in Houston Minnesota.

Found in a local creek in 1958 it measures almost 30 inches across the horn cores.

The nature center also has other specimens on display. The city of Houston sits near the center of the Midwest’s glacial “Driftless” Area.

Found locally on the Minnesota River it measures almost 27 inches across the horn cores.

Found in Miles City, Montana, this partial Columbian mammoth femur is housed at the Pipestone County Museum. It is currently not on display but a partial tusk and jaw from the same Montana doner are. More to come on those!

Unearthed from a peat deposit it is suspected to be ~7000 years old.
It is currently housed at the Maplewood Area Historical Society

It’s ! 🦣🐪🦥🦫🐴🍃 This bison skull cap is housed at the New Ulm Riverside History & Nature Learning Center. Found in a creek feeding the Minnesota River, it was collected on separate occasions 100 yards and 15 years apart!

Approximate age of the skull - 9,000 BP. If whole the skull would measure ~85cm (33 inches) across its horn cores.

Found in the LeSueur River, and originally donated in the late 1960s, it was said to be found along with a jawbone and some additional teeth.

In 1969 the University of Minnesota aged the skull to 8,000-10,000 BP. The skull is 78cm across its horn cores.
