Well fitting that 1st December is #LostSpeciesDay Maybe Mr Icke is indeed an extinct type of weird conspiracist?

I have for years been fascinated by the extinct quagga, a half zebra and half donkey, the last examples of which disappeared in the 19th century in Africa. A project to re-create the quagga has been under way for many years, using 'Jurassic Park' type gene technology.
The only photo is of a London Zoo example in 1870.

In observance of #lostspeciesday, here’s the Carolina Parakeet, as portrayed by Audubon. This somehow makes me less miserable than posting a photo of the last Passenger Pigeon, Martha, alone in her cage at the zoo — where she probably spent her days hoping that day would be the day that she’d be reunited with the flock again. At least these birds have each other. #extinction #grief

For #LostSpeciesDay, and a week before #cop15, a reminder of the crisis we're in:
The Lord God Bird and Dozens of Other Species Declared Extinct in 2021 https://therevelator.org/species-extinct-2021/
I always find myself playing this on Lost Species Day:

As the ice caps melt away?
No use hoping for a miracle
There's a price we'll have to pay"

Today is #LostSpeciesDay. With #WhereTheSealsSing having been published, I'm thinking in particular of the Caribbean monk seal, last seen in 1952 & declared #extinct in 2008 due to unrestrained hunting & overfishing of its food.

Informed by my thoughts around the #ClimateCrisis, my latest album 'singing the earth (there is no planet b)' seems pertinent enough to #LostSpeciesDay for me to repost the link:

Stream it there on my Bandcamp - it's an hour long continuous mix of #ambient electronic music - or download it for as much or as little as you want.

"...a chance each year to explore the stories of extinct and critically endangered species, cultures, lifeways, and ecological communities."
I found this poem by @GreyElm very poignant.
Remembrance Day
for Lost Species
They're not lost,
though, are they?
Not misplaced,
nor did they stray.
Not tossed away
on the galaxy's sea.
We pushed them out,
like little lantern boats.
I hope they find their way.

Remembrance Day for Lost Species is a chance each year to explore the stories of extinct & critically endangered species, cultures, lifeways, and ecological communities.
While emphasising that these losses are rooted in violent & discriminatory governing practices, the day provides an opportunity for participants to make or renew commitments to all who remain, & to develop creative & practical solutions.

In honour of #LostSpeciesDay (November 30th) we've curated a series of online & in-person events, including an evening with the author of 'Bad Environmentalism' @nseymourPHD, exploring the role that dark humour might play in grappling with species loss 🦣

Today we want to reminisce on a grief ritual for #pollinators held by permaculturist Debbie Rees and artist Emily Laurens for #LostSpeciesDay, 2017🐝 With #COP27 opening tomorrow we urge world leaders to be in communion with all beings past, present and future during the talks.
