Happy #LouisRiel Day to those who celebrate Indigenous resistance and "treason". And I guess for the people in Manitoba who just want a day off.

Today in 1869, the Red River Metis form a provisional government and draft the Declaration of the People of Rupert's Land and the North West.
Led by Louis Riel and John Bruce, this document will lead to the admission of Manitoba into Confederation in 1870.

He stood up to the colonizer. He was targeted by J. A. MacDonald because he resisted the state's decision to build a railroad through Indigenous land, without any consultation.
