Remote and little-known Morton Castle, standing on the south-west flank of the the Lowther Hills above Nithsdale in Dumfries & Galloway. Wanlockhead in Dumfries & Galloway, high in the Lowther Hills to the west of the A74(M). It developed from about 1680 to mine lead and other metals and is the highest village in Scotland at 467m or 1,531ft.
