I thought it couldn't get any worse, but the Instagram website, specifically the direct messaging chats list, has gone even further down the accessibility toilet. As of now, my screen reader cannot see chats that I know exist. Particularly frustrating as fellow students and student groups use Instagram direct messaging religiously.

I need to read #German #Braille, and have configured #JAWS with two braille profiles: English and German. However, JAWS does not render the capital letter indicator (dots 4-6) when in the German profile, even though the “Suppress Capital Signs” checkbox within the “Profile details” dialog for the German profile is not checked. @gopal @Tusky @teamtuck Also, there are currently not mobile #Firefish clients that are as #accessible or usable for #blind and #LowVision / #VisuallyImpaired users as #Tusky is. If Tusky were to add support for Firefish, it would help close that gap.

@zoe_squonk PDFs our a pain for most of us. although I don't use windows, I know of two other screen readers that others do use on that platform:
Ndvda: it is open source and free.
JAWS: it is proprietary and expensive.

I have just started “The Country of the Blind" by @andrewleland (just out). I’m maybe 10% through it, and can't recommend it highly enough—if the rest is half as good, it’ll be an outstanding book.

The author seems to be a decade or two behind me in the progression of his #RP. His story (so far) of gradual loss of sight sounds so similar to mine it's uncanny, and infinitely better written than I could manage. Go read it.

#macos geeks especially #lowvision #blind ones. Anyone know how to make the scroll-handle more visible? I use dark mode because i'm photosensitive, but I'm having a _really_ hard time seeing the black handle on a dark grey background, especially when you add in the reflections of ambient light sources on the screen.

Okay so for the streaming. I probably do need to practice talking clearer so that the captions work better? Live captions are known to be unreliable but it's also true I don't always speak as clearly as I should.

Also while I'm trying to make it more accessible to #Deaf/ #HardOfHearing I'm not doing anything for #LowVision/ #Blind people. Do people narrate everything as they're playing?

I'm not much of a talker to start with but maybe this will be good for me.
