And that, my friends, is my guide for the very first #steps when #starting to prepare for the #LSAT.
The next step is laying out the 3 sections, #logical #reasoning #reading #analytical #reasoning, and explaining how to approach each one.
Then we can drill down into the various types of questions, #games, #passages, etc.
There are so many ways to analyze and understand the #LSAT, it really is a #fascinating and challenging #exam!
Comments welcome!

#Starting
Isolate the types of questions that give you consistent trouble and build up special approaches to them.
There are a few types of #questions for each #section, we'll cover them here on #mastodon.
#Logical #reasoning in particular has many types, but we need *actionable* information. Defining is only the first step.
So, the types are grouped by the #processes they require. There are only a few #mental #processes required for the #LSAT, the challenge is to switch processes on cue :)

Let's start an #LSAT #question thread. #help #starting
Only real test questions and, just as importantly, NO COPY PASTE OF THE QUESTION ITSELF!
Just reference the NUMBER of the real test (PT 62, or PT85), and then explain the confusion.
Many people have access to the tests, so the reference will be enough for discussion.
We can play with the pieces of the question and tease out the right answer, and understand why the incorrect answers don't match or are weaker.

#Review is an essential part of preparation for #LSAT.
Review usually should be done soon after testing, but reviewing later can also uncover understandings about questions, the two processes have different benefits.
Remembering what you were thinking at the moment of decision on a #question can be useful as you review what went wrong and why you chose a wrong answer.
Review later can help you see the question itself and the connection to the #correct #answer more clearly. #Starting

#Timing is often a problem on #LSAT.
Some students can to move quickly, but many have trouble to make #decisions, or just get lost in some crazy answer choice.
We must learn to be efficient and make decisions quickly.
If you're having trouble, add 10 or even 15 minutes extra time when #starting. Decisions must be made instantly. Force yourself to decide, and then review those decisions.
Learn the correct process, then learn to be faster, and make some compromises to improve your score.

We've already distinguished between #real, #complete #LSAT #tests, and #random #questions.
The real tests for most students need are from #PT 50 to #PT-90. #older #tests are for #deep #dives only. The 40s are particularly weird and even less useful.
Only real, complete tests will give you an #indication of what your score would look like.
But the challenge is even worse, because the test changes over time, it evolves. If you study the 60s and then take test 85, the result may #disappoint.

@amoshiashwili Currently #LSAC #releases #LSAT #tests pretty quickly, I believe usually within a year.
But recently they've been designating many of the tests as #undisclosed.
Making new questions that closely resemble the test, without ending up copying the real questions, is hella hard, trust me I've done it (only for #games)
And poor fake questions are incredibly useless.

The way to get the #LSAT #sections under control is through #consistent #testing.
#LSAT taxes your brain so much that you need to build up #testing #instincts.
Any significant break in your practice and review will allow these instincts to lose their power.
Even 3 days off will leave you a little behind where you were previously, but these breaks are sometimes necessary and not always harmful (after an additional week of practice those instincts might be even stronger).
#lsat #sections #consistent #testing #instincts
When you're headed to the #LSAT #testing #center, you will want to have most of these #sections under control, where you can consistently #score decently.
One of them will always be the worst one of course. Ideally you can have one section fairly consistent, in order the balance the hardest one. Good scores are possible even with one #deadweight section.
But you'll want to study each of them enough to work through any difficulties that come up under the extra pressure of the real #LSAT #test.

The best process for starting #LSAT is usually #logical #reasoning first, then the #reading or #games, according to which is harder. Don't put off the #harder section to the end or you will stress. It's ok to go with the easiest section #starting out, but that just pushes the #heavy #lifting back.
Some may try to study all #LSAT sections simultaneously, but that doesn't work for most #students. Going for the hardest section first is also dangerous, it will lead to a lot of #frustration.

Preparing for #LSAT #exam? Here's how to get going #starting:
1. Both #Khan Academy and LSAT's sites have #LSAT practice content and #real #tests
2. #Real #tests must be used #wisely, as they are *the only true guide* of what a real score would look like for you.
3. #Diagnostics should be taken with a huge grain of salt. They are not complete tests, they shouldn't even give scores.
4. Diagnostics are only useful for identifying sections/types of questions that are troublesome for you.

Still not ready to dump the bird site, and still not sure how this one works, or what Post is, but if you're here and want to talk about the LSAT, let's talk!
