Catching up with tonight's #Puzzling, and it's a #quiz show format that's really grown on us. Some horribly difficult rounds in it. #LucyWorsley as host works surprisingly well too, as she's delightfully odd. We like delightfully odd. We did contemplate combining quizzing with another favourite activity of ours - drinking - to take a shot every time she waves her arms around expressively for no real reason, but realised we'd be legless before the first ad break.

I’m not a podcasts person really but having to treat an eye condition with a warm eye mask every night - gives me something to do. Hopefully it’ll help my concentration too, which is shot since covid.

She's one of those academics who's wound up in TV presenting duties over the past few years, she's definitely not a natural TV host, but we really like the occasional awkwardness and forced normality she tries to exude. Hell, we just like nerdy people. #LucyWorsley

I enjoyed #LucyWorsley's three-part series, #AgathaChristie Mystery Queen, on ABC iView. I watched it with my wife, a keen Agatha fan who received Worsley's book, Agatha Christie - A Very Elusive Woman (#HodderAndStoughton 2022), for Xmas. So she provided me with further background on some of the events raised by Worsley.

Afterwards, we watched #KennethBranagh's recent #HerculePoirot re-interpretations, Murder on the Orient Express and Death on the Nile, covered by Worsley in her series (with spoiler warnings). Again, I was grateful to my wife for having these Agathas in her bookcase (Fontana 1961 and 1984 editions) to fill in the bits I missed in the storyline.

And now, I look forward to reading these three books. But, erm, have I mentioned my to-be-read pile? :undefined::undefined:

Lucy's "spoilers" did not spoil the films (at least, not for me!). 🧐

For fun, I watch PBS documentaries (a lot of royalty, #LucyWorsley, #AmericanHistory, #KenBurns), I let my kid watch because not a lot of cursing, but there's real life history involved.

Now when I start a documentary, the kid says, 'I love documentaries!'

It warms my nerdy heart. ❤️ 🤓

There’s nothing nicer than a Christmas visit to a local bookshop. You’d be hard pushed to find a better one than Broadhursts in Southport. A roaring fire, new books, rare books and second hand books. On BBC4 TV at 9pm on Tuesday 13th December 2022, #LucyWorsley is in #Christmas mood!

In 2018, I read and reviewed a novelisation of #AgathaChristie's disappearance written by Australian author #KristelThornell, On the Blue Train (Allen & Unwin 2016).

While I'm not a big Agatha fan, I knew the real-life outcome. However, as the novel neared the end of her final days sheltering under an assumed name at Harrogate, I willed the fictional Agatha to choose a different path.

And as I commented in the review: "Allowing the reader to suspend disbelief is surely the gift of a good book." 📖

PS. I've bought a copy of the biography mentioned in the ABC article, A Very Elusive Woman, written by #LucyWorsley, for my Agatha fan wife for Xmas.
