Bottled a year's supply of Zirberl (Zirben schnaps) today. It's made of the cones of the arolla pine (pinus cembra) which is a protected species. Only a few people are allowed to pick the cones off the trees during the summer months. Put three cones, 500 ml 80-proof alcohol and a small handful of sugar candy in a glass jar and seal it. Store it for six weeks in a dark place, then bottle it and let it rest for some months. Smells like a pine wood in high summer, a perfect digestive.

Last tour of this season with my younger son (Königstuhl, #Lungau, #Austria). We had beautiful weather today and found a region with good snow (again - given the history of the snow). Hard snow and drifted powder on our way up, brilliant drifted powder in a northern gully and then firn on our way down 😀.
