#Lunik 21 landed roughly 166 km from #Apollo 17 on the #Moon. Pretty close, but a little too far to drive over and look around.
This image was created using the #NASA #JPL Moon Trek web application. Apollo 17 was searched for and displayed, then #Lunokhod 2. Then the Calculate Distance tool was used to determine the distance between the two landings.

Weird #space trivia of the day:
Richard Garriot, noted #Ultima game developer and #ISS space tourist, owns the #Lunokhod 2 lunar rover and #Luna / #Lunik 21 lunar lander, which are on the #Moon.
He bought them from the financially strapped Soviet Union in 1993 for $68,500 at auction.
The rover was remotely driven for over 23 miles on the moon before running into the side of a crater.
This ownership does provide some legal precedent for spacebro Elmo claiming stuff on the Moon once #SpaceX rockets and employees land there.
