Hay otra que tampoco está mal, pero consume algo más, sobre 265 a 300 MB de RAM, que es #LXLE. como su nombre indica, tiene el escritorio LXDE y está basada en #Lubuntu. De hecho creo que los que lo han hecho eran algunos que estaban en el ñproyecto de #Lubuntu y querían seguir manteniendo LXDE en vez de LXQt.

Los fondos de escrotorio de #LXLE son muy bonitos.

@jjdavis @fredbrooker @Linux_Is_Best so, not sure how actively maintained it is, but #LXLE remains one of my favorite lightweight distros. I mean, I really love it. So beautiful and smooth.

Finally got #samba working again, again, on my #LXLE #Focal64 #linux box.

So annoying that it seem to regularly break after samba is updated.

This time I just could not get it to work no matter how much I tinkered with smb.conf. In the end I just purged samba and reinstalled it.

After I recreated my smb user and added a share it all just worked. Now able to browse and read/write linux->windows and vice -versa! Hurrah!

And that smb.conf file has also been backed up...

What a pain! Spent ages trying to get #samba working on #lxle focal 64. Able to prove that samba was installed but the #smbd service was refusing to start. Also, trying to connect as a client to other servers failed. Eventually decided to blow away the smb.conf file, replacing it with the default. After that I was able to start the smbd service. Then able to connect to shares and advertise them too. No idea why the "as installed" smb.conf file was such a mess, and needed to be exterminated 😠

Ok, #lxle focal 64bit installed and the #Arduino v2.0.3 appimage IDE just works! 🥳

When I last used this PC it was a speed demon... Now I think it might qualify as #retro to some. It is getting a rebuild/upgrade, #lxle OS, an SSD (a donation), and a #Core2Quad 9650 CPU (eBay). Nearly ready for power up, once I find a PS2 keyboard and mouse.

Laptop #2 is this HP Mini 210 #netbook I got from a friend who was getting rid of it. With a 1.6 GHz single core Atom and 512 MB of RAM, it struggled to run Windows 7. I boosted the RAM to 2 GB, put in an SSD, and installed #lxle #linux - an extremely lightweight distro based on Ubuntu with the LXDE desktop. It... is still struggling. The only thing it's really good for is typing, and the keyboard is way too small and uncomfortable even for that. Maybe I'll use it as a file server or something.

Finally getting the #FlyingPigRanch and #Thistle #Farm I.T. Department moved and settled into its new digs. Sign over the door says #Robotics and #ArtificialIntelligence.
Crusty old crap... HP rescued from the dumpster (or was this the haunted one?) Running and writing this in LibreWolf, #LXLE. #1Son extracted the jumper from the #Ancient #Acer (planned obsolescence AF!) but it will only run Ununtu 10.04 LTS. More on #RescuingTechnology and maybe pictures iffen I can share across platforms.

日本語入力がFcitx-Mozcで出来るようになったので、今度はブラウザ。

今入ってるブラウザはSeaMonkey 2.53.10.2。SeaMonkeyは昔のメーラー混合期のFireFoxがフォークして残ったブラウザ。機能的には全く不足していないが、今私はメーラーを全く使わないので、現在のFirefoxを使うことにする。

単なるFirefoxを使うのは面白くないため、Firefox ESRを使うことにする。
rootのコマンドプロンプトから

add-apt-repository ppa:mozillateam/ppa
apt update
apt install firefox-esr
apt install firefox-esr-locale-ja
でPPAを追加して、本体と日本語化パッケージを導入。

メニューから「インターネット-Firefoxブラウザ」で起動。
パット見た目は普通のFirefoxと変わらんが、about見たらesrになってた。

lxleの日本語入力の続き。

窓の中の「インストール」をクリック。
言語サポートパッケージの諸々が導入される。
結構な数のパッケージが導入される。takaoフォント入ってるのに、ipaフォント入れるのって意味あるんですかね？　よう知らんけど。

入力方式フレームワークにはこだわりがないので、窓の記述通りに「Fcitx」を選択。

ログアウトーログインを実行。

閉じる前の窓では、色々作業が支持されてたが、ログイン直後から、「半角/全角」ボタンで日本語入力に切り替えることが出来るのを、Pluma（初期導入されてるGUIテキストエディタ）で確認。

もしかしたら、何か作業したほうがいいかもしれないが、特に不便してないので、放置。
困ったことがあったら、調べてみよう。

EeePC 900HA にlxleを導入したのはいいが、日本語入力も出来ないんじゃ、常用は不可能。

というわけで、日本語環境を整備

メニューから「コントロールメニューー設定ー言語」で表示のlocalを日本語に設定。
言語・地域・Time formatが日本語UTF-8になっているのを確認したら、システムロケールを「システム全体に適応」する。

で一番下の「言語のインストールと削除」をクリックして、japan UTF-8 の不足してる言語パッケージを「言語パッケージのインストール」する。
takao明朝とゴシックが導入される。
この作業意味あるのかね？

で、japan UTF-8ですべてのパッケージが導入されてるか確認したら、すべての窓を一旦閉める。

で表示が大丈夫というとこで、今度は入力の設定。
メニューから「コントロールメニューーハードウェアー入力方法」で日本語入力の設定。
開いた窓のから「日本語」を選択。日本語の上が中国語なのは、ユーザ数の違いか？　ところでテルグ語ってどこで使われてる言語？

というところで、文字数無くなったから分割。

I need a new linux laptop. My X60 and T43 are dying. As long as it is small, has a CD drive and the hardware is linux compatible then I don’t really care. Whatever it is, I’ll have to buy it soon, exams are coming.
