"I am constantly getting questions from tourists about what predators we have. Do you have this? Do you have that? And I have to say no, to all of them. And I always feel that's a bit of a shame. People think: there's something missing there."

From 1950s - 2016 Eurasian lynx numbers increased by >500% and its range expanded by >150%, although this recovery still covers just a fraction of their historical range.
Scotland remains without its missing lynx, but the return of the #LynxToScotland is being actively discussed.

The effects of lynx predation go beyond a physical reduction in deer density, they will also change behaviour of the prey species & also their population dynamics. Natural processes which are vitally important but entirely missing in Scotland.

Large carcass ecology is a process we're almost completely missing. In Europe, everything from wild boar to wolves & crested tits to carrion beetles have been recorded feeding from lynx kills.
The carcasses then break down, releasing nutrients back into the soil.
