It is particularly known for the refrain: "þæs ofereode, þisses swa mæg" - "that passed over, so may this", though #Tolkien translated it as the slightly more #poetic: "Time has passed since then, this too can pass."

Tried stringing up my #lyre for the first time with the "new" tuning pegs (I made them years ago already at this point) and the string holding the tail piece to the body just snapped on me. That was a risk I guess. Will need a new solution for that, something stronger 🤔

At least the tuning pegs seem to work better than the old ones, those did not sit quite tight enough to hold the necessary amount of tension.

Currently I've got one piece of #music up on #BandCamp; a semi-improvised #original on #ancient #Greek Chelys #Lyre. It's called "Phoebus". I'm planning to work on an EP played on my small collection of ancient-inspired instruments, including the Chelys lyre, cithara, and even a replica Palaeolithic bone flute, but a lot of noise outside lately has prevented me from recording any more tracks.

I'd like to introduce my #lyre which I made 30 years ago with the help of a skilful friend. The shape is modelled after carvings from medieval Scandinavia, and it's decorated with two "Song Swans" (or Whooper Swans, as they're called in English).
There are many relics of a lost #myth linking the #harp with the swan and, although the word "harp" now refers to a different instrument, the so-called "true harp" is a relative newcomer so the word "harp" originally meant "lyre".

Thanks to @JubalBarca I stumbled today upon the fair #BettinaJoyDeGuzman who is quite excellent in singing greek verses like the #homeric #epic the #Iliad accompanying herself on the #lyre
