@fuchsiii @threetails #M42 is good because you can put everything from WW2 era observation optics to GDR-made portrait Tele lenses up to fine Voigtländer Nokton II glass on it...
The guys from Luton AS produced amazing work in the #AstronomySketching #workshop last night. Here are the collages; I love that it's clear they're sketches of #M42, #Archimedes + #sunspots, yet they're all beautifully unique - that's exactly as it should be🥰

New try on M42, long exposure time (2h 52m) I did in March. Quite happy with it compared to the one I did on December '22.
🔭 Clear skies everyone!

I feel like I have to relearn #pixinsight every time I load it up, but here’s what I captured the other night. Nice easy target because I was testing a new camera (asi 2600mc). I’ve switched back to colour because I lack the time to capture with separate filters and a mono camera. #astrophotography #orion #m42

Here are the results of my last session. Messier 82, the cigar galaxy and a good known M42, great Orion Nebula. Both were test-images because i actually have some troubles with my guiding or my mount. We'll see that later :)
Doing a proper #whistlestop tour of the night sky tonight! #m42 #m31 #m44 #mars #uranus #moon #doublecluster #owlcluster #almach had a go at #m1 #crab bit too dim to see any detail. Same for #pinwheel galaxy #astrodon

Petit tour à la brocante aujourd'hui, pour trouver un compagnon à mon Helios 44-2 : un Chinon Auto 135mm F/2.8!
#chinon #vintagelens #M42

Made some real progress with my #M42 ! 5 hours of capture so far! Seeing how more integration really helps to break down the noise the longer you go. 57x300" for main body, and 45x20" for core, processed in PixInsight

Clear atmosphere always helps. So from what I'm reading the objective lens is about 90mm in diameter?
You did better than my #M42 effort using the publicly available #MicroObservatory 6 inch Mak-Newts.

The Great Nebula in Orion - M42
This is one of the visibly largest objects in our night sky but it requires a long exposure to see all the nebulosity, it is located at what appears to be the central star of Orion's sword which is in fact a star factory made up of massive amount of gas, mainly Hydrogen Alpha.
This is 1,344 light years away so you're looking back in time 1,344 years.

@wessexweather thanks - yes it was. Had a long look at the #trapezium in #M42 through the scope. It was one of the clearest I’ve seen it
