Fuck it, now it's a toplevel post.

I hate the Affordable Care Act. It and the employer based coverage system it reinforces has screwed me personally at every turn. My preference for Medicare for All is not about purity as many Democrats may have you believe.

Every year that the individual mandate penalty was there, I was hit with it.

I just realized that if the US gets universal healthcare, it'll come at a time when the system is at its weakest and people will blame the recent government action instead of the decades of poor policy choices finally coming to a head. #m4a

My personal brief statement for when US medical dysfunction comes up?

The US spends 2x! OECD peer nations on healthcare while having the WORST life expectancy and abysmal infant mortality.

Whether we call it "wealth transfer" or pure (legalized through lobbying) theft, $5,000+/yr is stolen from each of us to our broken medical system!

Yes, your insurer can't discriminate against you for having diabetes, but they *can* make you pay an extra $2,000 in deductibles every year before covering any of your diabetes care.

Now, maybe business-as-usual would have been even worse. Perhaps not passing the ACA would have left Americans poorer and sicker. But we're not comparing ACA with doing nothing - we're comparing ACA with more muscular, direct programs, like #M4A.

I've built a PoC #mp4 meta tag editor for the #browser in vanilla #javascript that pretends to run in a #crt #terminal. Pretty stupid combo, I know :-) But I had a lot of fun building it!

(It's meant to be used with #m4a #audio files but seems to work with video too and it requires a browser with the File System Access API enabled.)
