Every time I visit a friend of mine in #Rotterdam I have the pleasure of biking through the #maastunnel. It has separate tunnels for cars (2), #cycling and walking (1 each). To reach the tunnel they have these old wooden escalators.

A monochrome real photographic postcard of the Maastunnel, which goes under the Nieuwe Maas River at Rotterdam in the Netherlands. The tunnel was begun in 1937 and was opened in 1942, with an unofficial ceremony so that the Nazis couldn't attend. In 1944 the Nazis placed explosives in the tunnel so that it could be destroyed as and when needed, but the detonator wires were cut by the Dutch Resistance.
