@Emmacox The #Mabinogion from Welsh mythology could be a good place to look. There are lots of interesting characters who don’t get enough attention.
@writingswap I just got some feedback from @nebulos, who very kindly read what I've written of my #ShortStory based on the #Mabinogion. This should help me make progress and clarity some of the plot points.

Amazing scene in Alan Garner's "The Owl Service" where two 1960s Welshwomen in a shop chat matter-of-factly and sympathetically about how unfortunate it is that some visiting English youngsters will have to be the ones supernaturally forced to re-enact a tragic event from the #Mabinogion. The locals clearly all know that this keeps happening every century or so.

@lydiaschoch My creative writing #dissertation is a portfolio of short stories inspired by the #Mabinogion. I want to write my own stories that feel as though they belong alongside the ones from #Welsh #folklore.

My #CreativeWriting #dissertation is on the #Mabinogion.
I’d like my collection of #stories to feel like they belong with the eleven stories of the Mabinogion, or as though they could have been told by the same kind of #medieval culture.
I’m studying how the stories work so I can recreate my own. It’s tough, but I’m making progress!

In #Wales the fertility god #Amaethon was a human farmer able to make even the most unlikely wastelands bloom. He owned a dog, a deer, and a lapwing that he stole from the king of Annwn, the #Otherworld, suggesting that the source of this world’s abundance rests in the mysterious realm beyond. This relatively obscure god was one of the children of the mother goddess Dôn.

So, I started a new picture today. A red dragon fighting a white dragon over Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) or perhaps Dinas Emrys (as in the legend)
Be interesting to see how it turns out!

On the other place I ran a bot that tweeted out, line by line, 3 times a day, Lady Charlotte Guest's translation of the #Mabinogion. I still have the dB kicking around... anyone interested in a #Mastonogion bot? #Folklore @folklore #Cymru
I know Guest's translation is not the best, but I needed something digital and public domain 😉

@folklore @wihtlore @histodons @pagan I just finished Spear by Nicola Griffith. Short novel (for her) but a deeply interesting interpretation of the search for the grail and King Arthur’s court. She does so much careful research and builds a setting that is so vibrant and Real. Many elements taken from the #Mabinogion which she explains in an afterward. Her writing is gorgeous and I’m already thinking I’ll have to re-read it.
Because of #Efnisien’s troublemaking, his half-brother Brân The Blessed had given Matholwch a magical cauldron in which dead soldiers could be placed and which would revive them as zombie-like killing machines. The #Irish king Matholwch brought out the cauldron to keep his troops strong against the mighty forces of Brân. Efnisien redeemed himself, however, by leaping into the cauldron. As it could reinvigorate only the dead, his living body caused it to burst apart.

Y Pair Dadeni [Cauldron of Rebirth] was much sought after as it could bring the dead back to life. Efnysien sacrificed his own life to destroy the cauldron after he realised his enemies in a battle were using it to revive their dead warriors.
