With the City of Mableton well underway since the vote to incorporate last November, we've decided to republish the articles run in the Cobb County Courier since 2015 about the Mableton cityhood movement to show how we got from being the largest Census Designated Place (CDP) to becoming a city.

The fourth transitional meeting of the Mableton City Council was fast and routine, as the new city passes ordinances that set up the framework of government.

Mayor Owens reported that the delay in setting up a city website is due to the slow processing of the application for a dot gov site.

There will be a groundbreaking for the Chattahoochee RiverLands trail head in Mableton, Monday April 24 from 4 to 5 p.m.

With 100 percent of precincts in, Michael Owens is the winner in the race for first mayor of the new City of Mableton.

The runoff winners for council seats 2-5 are:

District 2: Dami Oladapo
District 3: Keisha Jeffcoat
District 4: Patricia Auch
District 5: T.J. Ferguson

Districts 1 and 5 were decided during the special election, when Ron Davis and Deborah Herndon won those seats with over 50 percent of the vote.

Austell, in my opinion, has a better chance of restoring a sense of #urban cohesion than the adjacent newly incorporated (and much larger) City of Mableton.

Austell maintained significant remnants of its late-19th/early-20th Century downtown.

In Mableton that town center was obliterated, so creating a downtown would have to be done from scratch, and uphill against modern parking requirements, setback regulations, etc.

@bayport It looks like we have hashtags for all the incorporated cities in Cobb plus soon-to-be-city of #Mableton.

So now all that's left are the two CDPs, #Vinings and #FairOaksCobb (to differentiate from the much larger CA Fair Oaks), and the areas that should be CDPs, #EastCobb and #WestCobb

@bayport You should check out the newest (as far as I know) Chattahoochee Coffee in Riverview Landing. It's in the City of Smyrna, but in the set of annexations that gave Smyrna its first real river frontage. You can sip coffee right on the river. One benefit for me is it's walking distance from my house (I'm in the soon-to-be City of Mableton, but surrounded by City of Smryna on four sides).
