The initial setup always seems to be with random MAC address (for privacy reasons)... Only once you successfully connected to the new WiFi at least once, you can modify the connection to use the device's "real" MAC address...
Seems to be a design limitation?!
For security reasons I have a separate IoT LAN, and per-MAC/device #WPA keys.

I'm not overly prone to paranoia but I'll just keep an eye out, keep the TV blocked, and see if "other" mac addresses start popping up.

ip link set wlan0 address "$ADDR"
## or if macchanger is on the device just use 'r' for random:

So that's half the trick, but it looks like this distro or driver or network adaptor, we are working with atm, doesn't reset the #MACAddress…
