"It is pleasing that with the top-level meeting between EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, a breakthrough on the Northern Ireland Protocol is finally in sight," says Holger Kunze, Head of VDMA's European Office in Brussels. "Three years after Brexit, it is now really time to resolve the permanent conflict and the ongoing uncertainties. Companies urgently need clear rules on dealing with Northern Ireland so that the movement of goods can run as smoothly as possible without undermining the EU's single market.

The EU-Commission called on 17 EU Member States to comply with the EU Posting of Workers Enforcement Directive. These Member States now have two months to take action.
VDMA welcomes the fact that the EU-Commission criticises national rules that are too far-reaching. However, it is a pity that the administrative practice, which leads to a high administrative burden for companies in many Member States, is not addressed. Moreover, some EU Member States where the machinery sector has many problems are excluded, e.g. Luxembourg and Spain.
VDMA has repeatedly drawn the attention of the EU-Commission and the EU Member States to the bureaucratic hurdles and burdensome practices in many EU Member States in the area of the posting of workers. We also hope that the ongoing work on the eDeclaration will bring some relief for our member companies.
