The Journal of #Limnology published a special issue on georeferenced #freshwater #biodiversity data. The first three #datapapers are now available— about #rotifers and #diatoms in Italy 🇮🇹 and #zooplankton, #macroinvertebrates and #fish in Uganda 🇺🇬. More papers to come!

The special issue results from a collaboration between GBIF and the Journal of Limnology aimed at filling gaps in primary biodiversity data on freshwater species.

On our end, we've been using #benthic #macroinvertebrates , bugs collected from the bottom of #streams , as 'natural' #eDNA samplers. So far, we've been able to detect both #macroinvertebrates and #diatoms from the same mixed community samples to construct trophic networks to assess stability and identify keystone species "Multi-marker metabarcoding resolves subtle variations in freshwater condition: Bioindicators, ecological traits, and trophic interactions" https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ecolind.2022.109603

I'm a #biogeographer and in my research, I try to understand how #biodiversity has changed over time and what the underlying processes causing the changes are.

I'm interested in a wide variety of #freshwater organisms and environments at different spatial and temporal scales.

Now, I work with #macroinvertebrates but I really love aquatic plants #macrophytes.
