The GOP is the party of dumb!!! They revel in their privileged, insider "knowledge" that isn't informed by the "fake media" while being oblivious to how they are being used, lied to, and misinformed. They are so proud of their stupidity that they can't see how uninformed and wrong they are! They are the willing dupes of the obscenely wealthy who purposefully misinform them for their own unjustifiable purposes and greed.

"A rot in the GOP": Tuberville blasted for military blockade over "poems on aircraft carriers" | Salon.com salon.com/2023/09/07/arotin-th

"MSNBC's Joe Scarborough slammed the Alabama senator for saying he didn't know what the Pentagon does every day

"There's a rot in the GOP and Tommy Tuberville is a perfect example of it."

On Thursday, MSNBC host Joe Scarborough, a former Republican member of Congress, slammed GOP Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., who complained about "wokeness" in the military amid his months-long military promotion stoppage protesting the president's military abortion policy.

Tuberville told Fox News' Laura Ingraham on Wednesday that the armed forces are losing recruits because of so-called wokeness, Mediaite reports. After accusing the Biden administration of wanting to make everything "about equity" with its military policies, the Republican senator called on Navy Secretary Carlos Del Toro, who co-authored a scathing op-ed accusing Tuberville of "aiding and abetting communists" by carrying out the hold, to "get wokeness out of our navy."

"We've got people doing poems on aircraft carriers over the loudspeaker. It is absolutely insane the direction that we're heading in our military and we're heading downhill, not uphill," Tuberville said, adding later that "we're running Russia into China" after responding "no" when Ingraham asked if the U.S. military could confidently take on the country.

The Alabama Republican's recent comments about the military drew rebuke from Scarborough, who during his Thursday morning segment sharply condemned Tuberville's admission that he doesn't know what Pentagon officials "do every day."

"What an idiot!" Scarborough said, after playing a clip of Tuberville's remark. "What an idiot. Let me just say it again. What an idiot! What!? What? You don't know what our military leaders do in the Pentagon every day."

Scarborough went on to chastise Tuberville, explaining that the Pentagon protects the nation from enemies and freedom from tyranny and "idiocy like that guy." He ended his admonishment of the senator by acknowledging the "honorable Americans" who serve the country despite the sacrifices that come with doing so. "And those are the people that Tommy Tuberville is hurting every single day. It's disgusting," Scarborough concluded.

Gym Jordan is such an incompetent, asinine tool! And far too much of the GOP wants to put their thumbs on the scales of justice and undermine real attempts to hold Trump and his minions accountable for blatant attempts to destroy our democracy. Party of law and order my ass! It's really the party of made-up titles that sound good, and may even get them votes but are entirely inaccurate and misleading. They don't want democracy or to share/compromise, they are only interested in winning, power and serving their looney donors and misinformed voters.

'This is how it's done': Legal experts applaud Fani Willis for sending Jim Jordan 'to the showers' - Raw Story rawstory.com/jim-jordan-fani-w

"Social media legal experts piled on Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) after Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis fired off a multi-page letter to the House Judiciary chairman, essentially telling him to butt out of her investigation into tampering in the 2020 presidential election.

On Thursday, the prosecutor who indicted Donald Trump and 18 alleged co-conspirators on racketeering charges (RICO) slapped down Jordan's attempts to "interfere" with her investigation, and curtly explained to him that he has no idea what he is talking about when it comes to the law – even accusing him of spreading "misinformation."

With regard to her filing under the RICO statute, Willis made a point of reminding the blustery Ohio Republican that he never passed the bar after attending law school, writing that he can still continue his education by purchasing legal expert John Floyd's RICO book "for the non-bar member price of $249."

POLL: Should Trump be allowed to run for office?

Reacting to the dressing down of Jordan, attorney Victor Shi wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, "DAMN. DA Fani Willis just sent a letter to the House Judiciary Committee, saying Republicans are 'obstructing a Georgia criminal proceeding' & tells Jim Jordan directly he should buy a copy of the RICO book for the 'non-bar member price.' Bravo, DA Willis. THIS is how it’s done."

He later added, "She continued to tell Jim Jordan, 'Your letter makes clear that you lack a basic understanding of the law, its practice and the ethical obligations of attorneys generally and prosecutors specifically.'"

Former Justice Department official Harry Litman also piled on, writing, "Blistering response from Fani Willis to Jim Jordan's completely improper attempt to ferret out info about her investigation and prosecution," and then added, "Really extremely aggressive pushback from Fani Willis to Jim Jordan. Letter tells him he's transgressing state sovereignty, separation of powers, administration of criminal justice, & the deliberative process privilege; then provides 'voluntary' answers that shred his arguments."

Atlanta Journal-Constitution reporter Tamar Hellerman, who has been covering the case, labeled Willis' letter as "spicy."

MSNBC editor Steve Benen explained, "Fani Willis could've simply ignored Jim Jordan. Instead, the prosecutor explained to the Judiciary Committee chairman that he doesn't know what he's talking about."

Conservative attorney George Conway slyly contributed, "Fani Willis sends Gym Jordan to the showers."

The X account maintained by the House Judiciary Democrats also had its say, with a link to the story accompanied by: "DA Fani Willis to Chairman Jim Jordan: 'Your letter makes clear that you lack a basic understanding of the law.'"

Lawfare reporter Anna Bower also got in a jab, writing, "Fani Willis to Jim Jordan: 'Bless your heart.'""

Part 2
As obscenely wealthy right-wing nutjobs have dramatically increased their funding of the GOP and fringe candidates, the GOP has been remade into something Dr. Frankenstein would find horrifying! No longer content with mere tax cuts, now the new donors want Christian nationalism, abortion bans, racist policies, the dismantling of public education and the creation of right-wing propaganda schools in their place. Embracing fossil fuels and massive gun ownership, the vilification of intellectuals, the free press, migrants and non-traditional sexual roles, and the labeling of liberals as traitors, and authoritarianism and fascism as desirable, is now what the GOP stands for. They are crazy and they think they are winning and inevitable.

This is the startling truth about the GOP 'establishment'
rawstory.com/this-is-the-start

"Well, it was actually a long time percolating in the party.

We can go all the way back to Joseph McCarthy in the 1950s, and then Barry Goldwater, Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, and Newt Gingrich to see the evolution of what was once the party of Main Street into an ideologically extreme political faction. The seeds were sown all through those eras. But this new MAGA establishment is a direct outgrowth of a specific movement of the past decade or so: the Tea Party.

The whole Tea Party phenomenon seems sort of quaint now but it had a powerful influence on the Republican Party. There were a lot of rationales for its formation, but the real impetus was the election of the first Black president which seemed to send a good number of Republicans into a frenzy of revolutionary zeal.

As is usual when a Democrat wins the White House after a GOP president has run up the national debt, Republicans suddenly claimed to be intensely concerned about deficits, spending and the size of government, which soon came to be symbolized by their rabid opposition to the Affordable Care Act. It was a heavily astroturfed movement, supported by big-money donors like the Koch Brothers, but it was a genuine grassroots movement as well, largely enabled by the right-wing media and emerging social media platforms.

Their organizing was impressive with big marches, cross-country bus tours and, once they got rolling, riotous Town Hall protests against the health care reform. And soon they were electing people to Congress carrying their message. In 2010, Rand Paul of Kentucky and Marco Rubio of Florida were both Senate Tea Party candidates. In the House, there were a number of Tea Party winners who signed something they cleverly called "The Contract From America" and went on to form the Freedom Caucus. (Founding member Jim Jordan was a back-bencher elected in 2006 who joined this new "revolutionary" movement.)

The anti-tax, government-slashing extremists are one with the revolutionary MAGA culture warriors.

The Freedom Caucus went on to engineer the ousting of the Speaker of the House John Boehner, shut down the government more than once and refused to negotiate in good faith or compromise on anything. They were drunk with power and did what they wanted damn the consequences. But then Donald Trump came along and the Freedom Caucus rebels, with their hardcore adherence to free market capitalism, global trade and slashing government programs got very, very quiet. They did get some massive tax cuts in the first year of Trump's term but they were passed by acclamation — there were suddenly no dissenters in the party on that one.

Meanwhile, the MAGA movement, under Trump, took up what was once the undercurrent of the Tea Party movement, the culture war, and brought it to center stage. No longer did anyone have to pretend that all they cared about was spending cuts. They could hate on immigrants and Black people and gays and liberals right out in the open and could do it in the crudest terms possible. Conspiracy theories were encouraged to flourish and loyalty to Trump was the only "issue" they needed to care about.

This new Congress finally brings it all to the fore. It's all come together. The anti-tax, government-slashing extremists are one with the revolutionary MAGA culture warriors. Today Speaker Kevin McCarthy embraces Freedom Caucus member and MAGA heroine Marjorie Taylor Greene while Freedom Caucus founder and MAGA leader Jim Jordan leads a crusade to "take down the deep state" and Freedom Caucus member and MAGA superstar Matt Gaetz plots ways to destroy the economy if they don't get their way. They are all one. These former gadflies and bomb throwers are the establishment now. They are the Republican Party. The metamorphosis is finally complete."

Part 1

This is the startling truth about the GOP 'establishment' - Raw Story - Celebrating 18 Years of Independent Journalism rawstory.com/this-is-the-start

"House Speaker Kevin McCarthy made good on his promise this week to exact revenge on Democrats for denying committee assignments to far-right extremists Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., and Paul Gosar, R-Az. He booted two California congressmen, Reps. Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell, from the Select Committee on Intelligence. As Speaker, McCarthy has the power to make this move unilaterally. But he is also proposing to kick Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar off the Foreign Relations Committee, which will require a vote of the full House.

The cycle of revenge has officially begun.

It should be noted that the removal of Greene and Gosar, both of whom have addressed white nationalist gatherings and publicly advocated for the deaths of Democratic officials, was decided by a bipartisan vote by the full House. But that was an earlier, more innocent time. A golden era when death threats against Democratic colleagues were considered bad form by at least a handful of Republicans. It was all the way back in 2021, a lifetime ago. In the Republican Party of 2023, Kevin McCarthy's clown show, such behavior is rewarded with plum committee assignments while prominent critics of Donald Trump are politically sacrificed in ritual acts of retribution.

There is no difference now between McCarthy, Jim Jordan of Ohio, a Freedom Caucus founder, and Florida's Matt Gaetz, a former MAGA gadfly. They are all the Republican establishment now. And nothing illustrates that better than the relationship between the Speaker of House McCarthy and his rightwing-woman Greene, whom he vowed to never abandon:

"I will never leave that woman. I will always take care of her ... If you're going to be in a fight, you want Marjorie in your foxhole. When she picks a fight, she's going to fight until the fight's over. She reminds me of my friends from high school, that we're going to stick together all the way through."
That's an interesting thing to say about the woman who recently told a Republican audience in New York that if she had organized the January 6th Insurrection, "we would have won, not to mention it would've been armed."

The New York Times describes this new MAGA establishment this way:

Their political union — a closer and more complex one than has previously been known — helps explain how Mr. McCarthy rose to power atop a party increasingly defined by its extremes, the lengths to which he will go to accommodate those forces, and how much influence Ms. Greene and the faction she represents have in defining the agenda of the new House Republican majority.
It feels as if this has all happened overnight.

The whole Tea Party phenomenon seems sort of quaint now but it had a powerful influence on the Republican Party.

Greene was just elected to the House in 2020. She never even served when Trump was president. During his tenure, she was just an average QAnon housewife pushing conspiracy theories on Facebook. A scant two years later she's being discussed as a possible running mate for Donald Trump in 2024. How on earth did it come to this?"

The MAGA, fascistic, democracy-hating, no-nothing, conspiracy-loving, insurrectionists are now in control of the house of representatives thanks to McCarthy and his benefactors who want to destroy democracy so they can have their serfs back. They want to make democracy look ineffective and chaotic so people will support them as they drown it in the bathtub. And the media, owned mostly by the wealthy, is poised to give them a free pass to do it.

Our media is determined to learn nothing from the Trump era
read.letterhead.email/standing

"Without the “will he or won’t he” tension behind Kevin McCarthy’s bid for Speakership driving attention, I fear the media attention on the MAGA grip on the GOP majority in the House has started to wane. But man, it really shouldn’t, because the steady drumbeat of committee appointments makes it clear that there is no real separation between MAGA and the GOP, and that Republicans are wholly the party of fascist insurrection now.

The debate over how seriously to take the committee assignments given to The Talented Mr. George Santos is, I feel, somewhat missing the point. It doesn’t matter if his committees are powerful. What matters is McCarthy is fully committed to empowering every fascist and grifter in the party, because he sincerely believes that is their road to power.

That’s why the House Oversight Committee is now a train wreck of the most devoted conspiracy theorists and insurrectionists in the GOP, such Reps. Paul Gosar, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and Lauren Boebert. McCarthy isn’t even trying to be subtle or spin this as something it’s not. He wants everyone to know that the plan is to turn Congress into a full-time propaganda outlet against democracy and in favor of fascistic corruption. He’s rubbing our noses in it.

Alas, the mainstream media has learned nothing from the 2016 election and the role they played in demonizing Hillary Clinton while generally letting Trump off the hook for his very real crimes. Bothsiderism is a deep addiction. They are letting it justify pretending there’s an equivalence to Biden immediately turning over misfiled documents and Trump deliberately stealing documents, and then conspiring to hide the stolen goods.

That’s why I have no faith the media can resist covering the Oversight hearings on fake controversies. The one silver lining is that McCarthy empowered such clowns that it’s unlikely even the soft focus coverage afforded them on CNN will conceal the malicious lying and nuttiness. Certainly, the Biden White House thinks that’s the case, and seems less worried than amused by all this."

"The good news is that most of the U.S. government remains in the hands of functional adults. The bad news is that the House is headed down the rabbit hole to its own Wonderland, where things will become “curiouser and curiouser,” and its members will have to placate their extremists by believing “six impossible things before breakfast” every day."

The GOP Goes Down the Rabbit Hole - The Atlantic theatlantic.com/newsletters/ar

"...Meanwhile, Jordan’s fellow leader in the Coalition of the Unhinged, Paul Gosar, also tweeted on Saturday that Republicans “will conduct a real investigation into J6. The effort to attempt a coup between traitor Gen. Mark Milley and [Nancy] Pelosi will be reviewed and exposed.” This, apparently, is a reference to when Pelosi, as speaker, called Milley, the chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, two days after January 6 because she was concerned that Trump might try to start a war as a diversion from his election loss. (She wasn’t alone: Trump’s secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, among others, reportedly had the same concern. So did I.)

I doubt that most Republicans in Congress actually believe that the most senior military officer in the United States is a traitor. And yet, they all remain quiet—because under the GOP’s rules, any one member can move to vacate the speaker’s chair and start the whole leadership fiasco all over again, and that includes Gosar, the dentist from Arizona turned conspiracy-obsessed crank who now sits in the People’s House.

But Gosar’s gibbering raises the larger question of what else McCarthy might have agreed to while he was slicing up his political soul like a pound of cheap olive loaf. We’re in the dark—and so are many members of Congress, apparently. Punchbowl is reporting that the rules package, the first order of business about how the House will run, contains a secret three-page addendum—some sort of deal between McCarthy and his fellow Republicans that the rest of the members have not seen.
...
The good news is that most of the U.S. government remains in the hands of functional adults.
