@ryan I like games that have single-player rules so that I can take my time to learn them and get familiar with them before I introduce them to others. There's been a trend over the last several years in some of the larger, more complex games to have 1-player rules. They can be great if you find yourself with time on hand and can't rustle up a gaming group.

#mageknight is like a combination of deck-building games like #Dominion and #magicthegathering with resource management games like #scythe or #tapestry with some #gloomhaven RPG elements and settings thrown in.

Although the one thing missing from 1-player #mageknight is the ability to stab another player in the back and screw up their plans, because Mage Knights aren't exactly team players. Their back story and goals are kinda anti-knight, if you ask me. 🤣😁🏴‍☠️

I finally finished my initial run of #mageknight. It came down to the very last turn of the last tile on the last round, but I did it! It took about 3 hours of gameplay, when all was said and done. I had to split it between last weekend and this because, you know, life and stuff. But I won! The goal was to find the city and I did!

Dear future boardgamers who play #MageKnight with me for the first time,

I hope your experience has been enjoyable and that the game has taken less than 2 hours. I spent the first 2 hours of my first game to get about halfway through the first scenario trying to figure out all the rules and flow. It's a deceptively complex game, but I took the hit for you so that we could just play and roll through the first scenario in one session. Combat was challenging, but you did it!

I hope you had fun!

*Finally* set up and ready for the first #mageknight run through! There are a lot of pieces to organize the first time, although not nearly as bad as #gloomhaven. 🤣 I need a bigger table!

Next problem: put it on a base to make it look taller.
The scale is right: would it stand tall and straight, it would probably be as tall as a GW Stormcast Eternal. But that's not the impression it gives and I want it a little bit more impressive.

I got the skin right (sort of red copper), but the idea of it wearing kaki isn't really working. It makes sense storywise but it's too warm, and doesn't contrast enough on the tabletop.
I should try a blueish grey, I think.
But I will probably try a green wash first. Easier to do and would save time.

Cannot respectfully refer to myself as a solo gamer without having tackled this all time great. Unboxing tonight. #boardgames #mageknight
