Grandfather red oak alongside the house. Based on the circumference (diameter * pi), we estimate its age as 160 years, i.e. it sprouted back around the US Civil War.
It's visible as a gray smudge in a 1942 aerial photo of #CedarGapMtn. Along with the hillside paths that led to and from it. How many people do you think had a lunch under its then 80ish-year-old branches?
