#Pater (aka patil, pastil in #Maguindanao) is definitely a popular meal in this city. Downtown, there's a stall on almost every street corner, and in-between.
It consists of a fist-sized ball of rice, topped with *kagikit*. The sauteed, halal protein (usually, one of any: fish, chicken, beef), that goes on top of it. The kagikit adds (salty) flavor to what would've otherwise been bland rice, then molded and wrapped in banana leaf.

@ GroundZero village Kusiong #Maguindanao. I have only deep empathy for the #indigenouspeople Teduray who have survived but been displaced by landslide &flood of #Nalgae #PaengPH.
5 weeks ago, the typhoon devastated #Philippines, killed 154, displaced over a million people.

13 years ago today, we were stunned by a horrific #politicalviolence in the #Philippines.
58 people -- nearly half of them #journalists and #media workers -- were brutally murdered and buried in a mass grave in the southern Philippines province of #Maguindanao. The massacre, carried out by state-backed militias, is the world's worst ever attack on journalists.
