#P2P falls into 4 broad problem categories. Network, Replication, Storage, and Compute.
For example, Socket Runtime solves the network problem (discover/connect/send packets reliably). That’s all it’s concerned with in terms of P2P.
But people ask, how does Socket Runtime compare with other P2P solutions. You can’t compare them because you’re comparing very different things. Libraries like #IPFS, #arweave, #ditto, or #maidsafe can all be used as libraries in socket apps.

I created a Safe Network magazine on #kbin. Follow:
I've been a moderator on #Reddit for the #SafeNetwork / #MaidSafe subreddits since 2014 but will not be going back.
For now, this is just a personal test and not a MaidSafe or community effort, but who knows... if we build it, they may come. 😃

One of the first major projects to move to #Rust (back in 2015) the Safe Network has lead the way in many areas to ensure security and #decentralisation, and in turn maximise the #privacy and access of all participants.
Looking at the recent test networks their decision to move to running on top of #libp2p and extend where needed, is already paying off. #p2p #MaidSafe #SafeNetwork 🥳

There's a #SafeNetwork pull request ready to merge that adds NAT traversal using #libp2p so I'm hopeful the next testnet will be this week and give us the chance to test out running nodes behind a router.
Any testnet will be announced on the forum if you'd like to join.
You can run on Windows, MacOS or Linux by downloading the relevant compressed binary once the test has been announced here: https://safenetforum.org
Things are moving fast! #MaidSafe 👏

Exciting progress towards the next internet on several fronts. #MaidSafe are really motoring, with don't help from the folks doing great work with #libp2p 👏

Exciting...
#MaidSafe are creating a payment network as a stepping stone towards the full data storage and comms network.
This is in part to test and refine the payment system, which is novel - based on Digital Bearer Certificates (#DBCs with a #decentralised mint).
It will also demo a super fast, massively scalable and energy efficient #decentralized digital currency with *no* #Blockchain.

Safe Network Update 23 Feb
More than anything else, the thing that makes reliable #decentralized and distributed networking difficult is asynchronicity.
This week we take a look at #Stateright, a very useful #rust tool for testing our algorithmic assumptions since it tries all the different possibilities.

Safe Network Update 16 Feb
Time for a quick review of where we’re at with the various moving parts that make up the #SafeNetwork.
Overall, we’re excited by the simplification possibilities offered by the stable set idea, very happy about the establishment of the Foundation, and pleased with progress on consensus.
It’s also great to have community testnets back up and running, and to have folks leaping into action with their own GUIs.

The Safe Network Primer has just been updated.
If you want a quick(ish) overview of what it's all about this is the place to start.

Safe Network Update 09 Feb
On the back of last week’s testnet, which wasn’t functional for as long as others but nonetheless stayed up and produced some useful findings, we’ve decided to do a little explainer on joining as a node from home.
This is something we are trying to make more reliable and easier for folks to try out.
Positive news about the Swiss Foundation too.

Community documentation project
Here's a great way for non-coders to get stuck in: documentation with AI.
Yes. It will involve a bit of unexciting unpaid work, and yes, perhaps a little cut'n'paste slog.
But then it gets really exciting.
Maybe we can get #ChatGPT to explain the #safenetwork codebase for devs and users alike.
That would be massively useful and best of all would require no technical skills whatsoever.
Fancy a challenge?

Proposal for community documentation project
Here is a proposal to tackle that involves the non-coders amongst the community: Documentation.
It will involve repetitive, unexciting unpaid work and downright cut n paste slog. But perhaps we can get ChatGPT to do the comments for us.

@davew Reading the thread I know you're considering multiple aspects, and all need to be part of a solution, but these are being worked on to my knowledge:
- perpetual public data
- perpetual versioned access to websites, apps, any public data
- domains that never expire (that perpetual again!)
So you could have access to apps to access old websites based on this platform.
See: #MaidSafe who are building the #SafeNetwork.
There may be other projects, and I think IA is a trail blazer in this.
Safe Network update 19 January, 2023
It’s one of those weeks where there’s lots of bits and pieces going on, but nothing major to report, so we’ll just settle for a brief update.

Safe Network Update 12 Jan
Hi folks. A bit of an update for the Token Distribution RFC as we round on some solutions.
There are a lot of moving parts; from technical capabilities, design propositions, operational considerations, to legal feedback.
#safenetwork #maidsafe #decentralized
Can technology protect us from mass #surveillance such as #chatcontrol scanning?
#MaidSafe have been developing a p2p network which can't be targeted so easily by lawmakers.
They've tried repeatedly to ban #encryption over decades and the only reason they are finally able to attack its usefulness is the existence of a handful of centralised services
#p2p will be a harder target, and #SafeNetwork aims to provide far more benefits than just encryption. Govts and business will want it too

@echo_pbreyer @ppsde there is also - or rather I expect will be - a technical option. #MaidSafe have been developing a p2p network which can't be targeted so easily by lawmakers.

testnet: 50gbRound3 🔔
Here we have round three of the 50GB/25-node testnet. (You cannot join this network with a node just yet.)
We’re looking to verify the changes applied since the prior 50GB testnet.
All welcome.
