@djuber Thanks for the insight. I have been monitoring my #mailinabox server closely, as it seemingly provides automatic notifications if my domain or IP becomes blocked or is on a spam list. So far so good.

However, what you mentioned about outbound emails being blocked by others is a long-term worry of mine which is why my initial plan was to monitor for ~6-12mo before making the move. Hopefully my IP subnet at #hetzner doesn't get blocked either down the road (second worry).

@redeagle I've been using https://mailinabox.email/ #mailinabox for a couple years now, on a $5/month VPS from #vultr.

Appologies to people on the flyingmou.se instance if you haven't been able to access Mastodon or media files havent been displaying correctly. I was using the built in nameservers on my #MailInABox email server for everything, which is super convenient, but means when an upgrade goes wrong, it breaks DNS for everything. Should be fixed now.

I've noticed too that some of what I've written and sent off into the ether has either not turned up or is otherwise missing. I'm fairly sure that I replied to another thread with the hashtags #miab and #MailInABox, and also a more personal/humorous to a different thread, and can see neither. The miab was sent before the upgrade, the other was after. I have no idea if they never made it "out" or whether it's a search/access problem.

@atomicpoet Like #MailInABox (#miab) but for Mastodon? There is the Debian #FreedomBox, but I don't think Mastodon is included in that. It's provably only a matter of time and will though.

@m0zah @neil My mailserver is so overdue for an upgrade it's not even funny, so thanks for the tip about #MailInABox. That looks very convenient!

@neil Only that my infrastructure at home is BSD based and it's easier for me to run jails.

At the moment I have a VM in our data center but that's likely to come to an end next year.

I still think #mailinabox is wonderful and I can't fault it.

Over the next few weeks I start the long process of migrating my family mail server. #mailinabox #postfix has fared me well for over 3 years but now has come the time to migrate to OpenSMTP.

we're on ROLL now, #til the #munin installation that comes standard in #mailinabox can be configured to talk to other servers and it was terrifyingly easy to set up. i'm not sure future mailinabox upgrades will keep my config around, but that's what backups are for amirite?!

ok so since upgrading #mailinabox was so anti-climactic i'm thinking about moving the #linode box that runs my #valheim worlds over to #hetzner, so i can maybe have more than one active at a time. is this a good idea, or a great idea?

i did get that same 403 on my first backup restoration attempt but i added in the --s3-region flag and that seems to have sorted it.

Successfully upgraded my #MailInABox installation from Ubuntu 18.04 to Ubuntu 22.04.

We need a #mailinabox type service for Mastodon instances. Running one command and having it ask you some simple questions to set up an instance would be nice.. @josh
