This day (20 Tevet) marks the passing in 1204 CE of Moses ben Maimon, the great philosopher and rabbinic authority known in English as Maimonides and Hebrew as Rambam. Born in Cordoba in 1135, his family fled to Fez in 1148 when the Almohads invaded. He traveled to the land of Israel, but Crusaders forced him to settle in Cairo, where he was appointed court physician to the Sultan Saladin. I hope people share this: Here we see Conservative, Reform and Orthodox #Jews studying #Torah and #mussar together in #Brookline, Massachusetts.

We should encourage our local Jewish community leaders to do the same - Torah, #Mishnah, Talmud, #Maimonides, Mussar, are our common inheritance. With good will any community can create opportunities for cooperation, spirituality, Talmud Torah, and communal strength.

When one person wrongs another, the latter must not resent him in silence as is written (II Samuel 13:22) concerning the wicked: "And Avshalom did not speak to Amnon, neither good nor bad, for Avshalom hated Amnon."
Rather, one is obligated to inform him and ask him: "Why did you do this to me?", "Why did you wrong me in that matter?" as it says (Leviticus 19:17) : "You shall surely admonish your colleague."
