People who package Go software for #Gentoo probably noticed the deprecation of EGO_SUM in favor of dependency tarballs.

While the mailing lists and IRC channels provide plenty of opportunity to discuss how to supply dependencies for Go software, here I share a way to use GitHub releases to host dependency tarballs as an external Gentoo contributor, like proxied maintainer, GURU contributor, or overlay #maintainer:

Yesterday I read the heartbreaking last cry for help from the main core-js #maintainer. It's the actual manifestation of the widely-known "Dependency" #xkcd. As so often, open source work is not sustainable.

My project ssdp-responder (internet icon in Windows for your embedded device) has randomly got build failures in #buildroot over the past week+ ... couldn't understand what it was until I talked to Yann on IRC and he gently pointed out that it was my own packaging that was at fault. LOL 😂 #opensource #maintainer

That last #OhMyPosh release was created using #sapling. It’s not as intuitive as it claims to be, but usage was easier in a few ways compared to git.

I’ll be exploring this a bit more and will push a sapling segment out somewhere in the next days.

It’s not like git so I want to understand what information makes sense to show to the user (me).
