Today's healthy lunch - chicken adobo and a Visayan shrimp and vegetable stew called laswa.

Bring able to have home cooked *Malay food* for lunch is such a luxury. I can get Chineseish food in some form everywhere so that scratches that itch (even if my preference is still *Malaysian Chinese* food over all other types). But home cooked Malay dishes: ayam masak merah, ayam masak lemak cili padi.. we’ve taken to cooking these in the evenings and making enough for lunch the next day. Luxury!!
Fried egg, presented without comment.
This isn't just a fried egg, it's a masterpiece. Crispy on the outside, but with a gooey yolk on the inside.
Saw some Japanese YouTuber recommend this Muslim-friendly place hidden inside Mytown BookXcess and was not disappointed. RM25 inclusive of bottomless green tea. The portions are a lot more generous than they look on photo! #MakanApaToday

How many times/much time do you stir your nattō (納豆), to increase its umami flavor?
Well, according to this video, quoting NHK's Tameshite Gatten, the optimal number is 424 times.

I don't think I've ever done anything close to that number, nor do I bother to count. Sometimes, like today, I didn't even stir it. 😅
It's already lunch time for most folks, but I just had a hearty nattō omeretu breakfast, with steamed brown rice.
Tonight's #dinner: Vietnamese caramelized chicken (ga kho)

A fatigue kind of day today because of the health stuff I don't want to get into too much detail about.
Looks like I didn't get one of the grants I worked so hard on but oh well, I was expecting not to get it. At this point I've just had bad news for years (both academically and as a creative writer) and expect, almost welcome it (because I am perverse and also I am so used to rejection now that the idea of acceptance terrifies me).
Onwards and upwards. I'm more interested in the fact that I want to make a chicken curry for Malaysia's national day. IDEK, sudden craving for my own curry.
ps: the two types of sambal have sustained me all week and I'm so glad for them. Consumed with rice, salted egg, sambal belacan and sambal cencaluk. Heaven!

Cereals to start the day, served in a Japanese terracotta bowl with cute rabbits - a lovely birthday gift I found waiting for when I got back in town.
Home's where the heart is.
Cereals girded by bunnies,
or cavorting in moonlight.

We might have ordered a bit too much.
Spoiler: we managed to (mostly) finish the food.

Am feeling a bit bloodthirsty today
Tonight's dinner was caramelized luncheon meat over furikake brown rice with Japanese pickled ginger on the side.

@fediforum there's an active #SouthEastAsia community that hangs out at these hashtags: #TOOTSEA #MakanApaToday
Of course you can find them in their respective country hashtags such as #Malaysia #Singapore #Indonesia #Philippines and more.
I am not sure what you want us to do though?

I love Shiso (perilla frutescens, aka sesame leaves) ! And #til that Kaenip Kimchi is a thing! 😋
It's hard to find these back home, and I remember how a Japanese acquaintance who runs a restaurant is always disappointed by how most of their customers don't bother to eat it.
