The last wild horse on the planet is the Przewalski's of Mongolia. A distant cousin to domestic horses, mitochondrial DNA shows they diverged from a common ancestor 500,000 years ago. In Mongolia, they're called 'takhi', which means 'spirit'. They are critically endangered.
