I reckon this is a really important reform that Australia needs.
Get on board!

They were polling 14% under Meteria. When you only pull 8-14% of the vote, there's no point in refusing to play with others. That would see them marginalised as a purely back bench party.
With the climate crisis finally coming into everyone's focus, I'd like to see a greater Green vote this election. I'd also like to see the voting age lowered to 16 because they're the people who'll have to deal with the worst of what's ahead.

And #MakeIt16 needs to happen too!
We urgently need the voices, votes and political presence of the young!
@lightweight I can't actually vote yet, cause they didn't #MakeIt16 , but I'd say that the parties all seem fairly bad, and that no real change seems to happen anyway. It was kinda like this with the climate strikes for me, I used to go to every one of them, but nothing ever happened. It's just all so frustrating so I can see why young people give up.

If you want to tautoko Make it 16 make a submission and tell the govt to introduce a bill immediately (and not a referendum!)
Relevant to current events in #nzpol, our cowardly politicians yet again ignoring the pleas of the young and folding to the desires of those who caused all the problems we now face.
Labour are Tories with another name.
Would slavery ever have been abolished in a referendum where enslaved people weren't allowed to vote?
Would women have been allowed to vote in a referendum where only men voted?
Then why on earth are we considering a referendum on whether or not young people get to have a say in their future?
Human rights are not up for negotiation.

Yes, I've read some compelling arguments in favour of lowering the voting age in NZ to 16 (which I support as well).
I've been following Bernard Hickey's 'The Kākā ' Substack. He makes some good points.

> It’s a conscious strategy to transfer wealth from younger, poorer New Zealanders to those who are older, wealthier and politically influential.
Agreed. One reason I support lowering the voting age to 16.
More reasons to #MakeIt16

Delighted to see colleague Dr Hilary Dutton’s article on the youth vote #MakeIt16 #UCNZ https://i.stuff.co.nz/opinion/130582635/you-dont-require-a-fully-developed-adult-brain-to-make-informed-decisions
Not the biggest turnout for the poll but result is what I would expect.
Back in the day, without social media etc parents would have been the greatest influence I reckon.

The Spinoff has a very level-headed summary of what the Supreme Court #MakeIt16 decision actually means. https://thespinoff.co.nz/politics/22-11-2022/the-supreme-courts-judgment-on-the-voting-age-and-what-comes-next. The essential point is that the Electoral Act lacks justification for limiting voting to those 18 or over. The government now has to justify any limit to the voting age. So, change to the EA IS coming, it is just not clear at this point what that change might be - justification of 18, justification of 16 or justification of some other age limit.
