The funny thing about Malaysians is that we are so used to thinking our country sucks that when say otherwise we think they have an ulterior motive and are trying to butter us up 😆

I've lived a couple of years abroad and have travelled extensively. I have come to realise every country has its problems. We in Malaysia, for one, take for granted our relative peace from conflict and natural disasters.

And no guns is also great 😆

How #Brexit is affecting the cost of #Books. It looks like books in #Malaysia is gonna get a hella more expensive, or maybe the bookstores - the tiny amount we have left - will be left getting books from the US. It is sad that we don't print our own books here, but I suspect it is because the entrpirse isn't as profitable as #Malaysians are apparently not great English book readers. The Malay book market, however, is thriving I think.

I can see #Malaysians - govt, organisations, people - going to #Threads when #Twitter goes down. A few reasons:
1. Most already have Facebook & Instagram so they can retain their social networks
2. Most really do not care about #privacy and #data issues
3. Most can't wrap their heads around the Fediverse

Sure, I'd prefer it if they have a presence on the #Mastodon but at least essential govt/media communications won't collapse when Twitter does.

Dear idiot, I speak 4 languages. I switch comfortably between all, but write mostly in English. Also, Malaysians are not called "Malays". There are Chinese Malaysians, Malay Malaysians etc.

There's something very annoying about those travel/expat videos that announce to the world that #Malaysia is "cheap" and "affordable". I get that it's true for them, but it comes from a position of privilege - they often earn in US dollars, for one.
The reality for most #Malaysians is very different.

An expert commented that the West was gripped by the "cult of individualism". Indeed, I remember seeing what was happening in the West agog. #Malaysians were very compliant, so compliant that they did not protest when Parliament was literally frozen during the lockdowns.

#Malaysians, especially those who are Chinese or Indian believe that life is just better abroad due to less discrimination etc.
It isn't 100% true, of course. But you can be equally unhappy abroad - something some folks find hard to believe.
It's interesting to see how some #US folks are desperate to leave #America now for "greener pastures". I relate to that angst & all I can say is there's no right or wrong, and it's valid to leave or stay.

#Malaysians, have you been getting more spam/scam calls? Someone bought over an acquintance's number & called me repeatedly

Each time I answered they either hung up or sounded unintelligible.

The latest call, I demanded to know who is she & she claimed she was from Aeon Credit. I told her my card is fully paid up. She demanded to see bank receipts.

Not bloody likely!

I hung up.

If #Netflix cracks down on password sharing, what would you do?

Currently my parents and I share an account with my bro. We do that not because we cant afford it but because we barely use it.

The answer for me is pretty simple - I will just stop sharing the account and only resubscribe when needed. This is what I do with other streaming channels, which, btw, are far cheaper than Netflix.

Also, there are *other* options 😏
