sorry that this didn't turn out as eloquent as I was aiming for, my family kept being loud so this was about my tenth time recording. Anyway, similar to white people so focused on declaring that THEY, PERSONALLY aren't racist, rather than discuss the systemic racism that can only be worked on when white people take their/our egos out of it, I see a similar derailment tactic whenever conversations of #toxicMasculinity #sexism #misogyny etc come up, of men forcing the conversation to be about them instead by loudly insisting "#notAllMen!! THEY aren't like that!" which, 1, doesn't prove anyone (whether you're racist, sexist, etc depends on your actions, not whether you declare yourself to be one...) and 2 does nothing to improve the problem itself. put your #whiteFragility / #maleFragility on hold, stop taking everything as a personal attack and listen to the affected marginalized people (again, especially People of Color) when they tell you the systemic problems that need to be worked on, and think of how you can help.
