I finally finished The Lady From The Black Lagoon, and it was wonderful all the way to the end.

Now over halfway through The Lady From The Black Lagoon: Hollywood Monsters and the Lost Legacy of Milicent Patrick, by Mallory O'Meara, and I cannot recommend it highly enough.
As well as Patrick herself, it has also informed me about the superb career of Julia Morgan and the many women who helped to make some Disney classics.

Girly drinks by #MalloryOMeara is such a good read. A history of women’s role in creating and making alcohol. Pointy hats and brooms? Ale makers, who the church didn’t like so spread rumours about them. Hoppy beer? A beer loving nun. Popularity of champagne? An entrepreneurial widow who didn’t mind a bit of smuggling to Russia. It’s serious and funny, like all good books.

Btw I totally understand eye-rolling at my lists of favourite #directors #authors and #films. They are favourites coming from a life of habits formed before actively trying to seek out more varied voices. I could have added #celinesciamma and #bongjoonho (e.g.), but others I enjoy - #kathrynbigelow, #karynkusama -haven’t made quite the same impact on me until recent years. And I am currently enjoying a book by #malloryomeara mentioned previously, but I need to greatly expand my reading list.

I am going to randomly, once again, recommend this book to all. And everyone should learn the name of #milicentpatrick for her work, not least of which was her design of the #creaturefromtheblacklagoon
