I started with Mandrake in 2001 and lost count of which and how many systems distros I’ve used since then. But the stand outs for me have been #Mandrake, #Fedora, #Suse, #OpenDarwin, and #GNUStep. While there were differences between the systems in terms of hardware and software support I have never grokked what differentiates BSD and GNU.

I jumped to #Mandrake #Linux when it seemed #SuSE was stuck in quantity over quality of packages. It was really nice on a lot of counts. Stayed there for most of the rest of my time before I became a #Mac user… https://mstdn.mx/@spideymang/110770656189907542

But Neither of them can get me to the internet. It was #SuSE which solved my problem finally and then I settled.

Edward Kelley was the first article I edited on wikipedia in 2003 (I've been on wikipedia for a bit) . My great great grand aunt was reputedly a powerful witch. She got swindled in a land deal and made the land in question fallow. Apparently to this day nothing grows on it.

I earn money by managing our customer's operating system, mostly major distribution of linux server, some windows, and select solaris.
My daily driver is Macbook (MacOS) though 😊
So I have more credibility on #linuxserver compared with #linuxdesktop

Nach dem obligatorischen distrohopping, von #redhat (noch vor Aufteilung in #rhel und #fedora) über #SuSE, fedora, #mandrake, #ubuntu, #arch, #mint und einige andere, unbekanntere, die mir selbst nicht mehr einfallen bin ich dann zu #debian gekommen und da seit >10 Jahren geblieben weil es mich am wenigsten nervt. Auf meinem Hauptrechner läuft 'testing', auf server, RPis, Laptop meiner Frau und meinem Reiselaptop läuft 'stable'.
