Pic 3: yours truly under what I call the OJ tree bc they are juice oranges & the best (yet ugliest) I’ve ever had. Sometime they are partially green even when fully ripe (due to lacking winter chill.)

We have about 5 dozen hybrid #Kesar #mangoes to go through, after giving away most of them that we plucked from the tree in our family home. This year's crop was about 800 🥭.

@screenbeard you can get any mango you like in #Thailand. I suspect the mangoes of your childhood are yellow #mangoes (#Bowen in Oz). These are eaten with sticky rice in Thailand. Most Thais prefer green mangoes which are served wit a sticky sweet and spicy chutney

How interesting about the R2E2! This is what my brief notes on the Green Nam Doc Mai (Sour) say:

One of the first mangoes of the season, this one is first eaten raw and sour, mainly in Thai style salads, or with ingredients such as Jicama (yam bean). As previously noted, it is also eaten when ripe with semi sweet, crunchy flesh.

When green, the mango is mouth-puckeringly sour with a slight sweet edge. Crunchy and lovely it makes a great pickle too.

@weirdfishes mangoes are in season here now. I’m lucky living in Bundaberg where lot of #mangoes are grown along with #macadamias #sweetpotatoes #watermelon etc etc. it’s a great food bowl here. I dislike the seedless watermelon they grow more now. The old fashioned huge seeded ones are very sweet & juicy.
