As an AMAB person I have to admit that "man"spreading is incredible comfortable, or rather, sitting with my legs tight next to each other is *very* uncomfortable. Neither do I see an issue with that when there's enough space for everyone – other people may put their bag on the place next to them, or cross their legs to their sides or even put their feet up against the seat across. These are all ways of taking space that are valid if noone's forced to stand because of that.
Now, when we need to all cuddle together in a crowded bus, I need to find a way for me to sit comfortably. Ironically, sitting with my legs close isn't only uncomfortable but also... often taking a lot of space. I have very long legs and if I'm in a cubicle with a person across I'd literally take away the space for their legs. I *need* to put my legs somewhat apart!
However, there are other solutions I found for myself! For example I spread my legs just slightly while crossing my feet below the seat. That way I have a similar "angle" compared to regular "spreading" but my knees are basically just as apart as my shoulders! Crossing legs also works somewhat, but with my legs I tend to take away space a lot as well.

Don't bother. If a man needs to spread that wide to sit, his balls are big enough to use as wrecking balls to knock the door down.
There is an actual reason for manspreading. Many of us have balls that hang between our legs and if we close our legs too tight when we sit it is painful. #Mansplaining #Manspreading #BigBalls
