It's apparently that time of year. Dexter was convinced he followed something under the stove. When we pulled out the oven drawer, we found this little cutie hiding. Relocated outside where it can "pray" hopefully in peace (albeit in the heat).

An Asian Ant Mantis (Odontomantis planiceps) spotted at Bukit Gombak Park, Singapore, on 28 May 2022. This one is on its way to becoming an adult, losing its black ant-like colour mimicry and turning green.

When young, these mantids are coloured black and look like black ants for protection from predators.
