it's been a while since i've gone through my ammonite collection.
this is a 'rainbow' ammonite, which has been polished to reveal the iridescent nacre. i believe it's a relatively common mon, a Cleoniceras from the Cretaceous.

#SucculentSunday : overcast day, good for taking photos. my Haworthia cooperii started to bloom today, as it has reliably for a few years. this variety seems to produce shorter flower spikes than the other haworthias i've seen...i wonder if that's the influence of some sort of dwarfing genes.

My Crassula sarmentosa 'comet' (a type of jade) has been flowering for the last month or so. the blooms are like tiny 5-pointed stars.
because the plant is sprawling out of its pot, i'll have to cut it back soon. so i wanted to get a photo in before it gets the chop.

from my walk in the park: young oak leaves demonstrating marcescence, which is the tendency of some trees to hang on to their dried leaves throughout the winter. some scientists believe this helps protect the dormant buds at the base of the leaf stalk. beech trees also commonly demonstrate this trait.
this late in the season, the leaves are showing their age. parts of the leaves have been skeletonized, presumably by insects.
