If you follow #Receptiogate you know it circles around research aimed at reuniting manuscript leaves that were dispersed because of "book breaking". This blog post explains what this nasty practice entails and how much the reconstruction of manuscripts depends on community work and proper attributions.

Inspired by the vibe here, I just posted my first new blog post in a long time: "Medieval Manuscript Fragments in the Classroom". Read it here: https://tinyurl.com/yc6bkf7n
The post discusses fragments as survivors of systematic book destruction, shares my experiencing of teaching with them, and details a new frame design #UBC is implementing. Happy to discuss teaching with these hidden gems!

Damaged books can be quite pleasing, visually, or perhaps that is just me. Also, this particular damage reveals a tiny fragment of a medieval book hidden inside a 16th-century bookbinding. Binders of this era would recycle old fashioned manuscripts and used them as support material. (LocarnoBM MdS2Ca3).
