Spotted on Wikipedia. Detail from 1657 map Polus Antarcticus by Jan Janssonius (1588-1664) showing the western coastline of Nova Zeelandia. On this map, north is at the bottom. But giving the whole island a shadow, so it jumps out is just stunning. Like if Apple did their skuomorphism, but nicely.
