#MapKit people from Apple: #FB13127909. Thanks for the help!

In #UIKit, we can add an insets to a MKMapView to have additional space around a specified MKMapRect. It's useful for UIs like Apple Maps or
Flighty.

I'm trying to do the same for a #SwiftUI Map (iOS 17) but I can't find a way to do it. Has anyone played with that yet?

MKMapItems don't have any global unique identifier?

In my app, users can search & select places. I don't want to store duplicates in my database, so I'm looking for a way to compare MKMapItems. Comparing properties seems weak.

Some 3rd-party removed:

- Kingfisher: I used it to cache snapshots generated by #MKMapSnapshotter (for UITableView cells) ➡️ I'll now cache them in my Core Data store, if needed.

- Alamofire: I used it to fetch locations by consuming Foursquare API ➡️ I'll now use #MKLocalSearch (#MapKit).

Create new #macOS #SwiftUI app in the latest #Xcode beta. Change ContentView by including #MapKit and replacing the body with ```Map { }```. Compile and run on Sonoma beta. Get an assert failure.

I guess Apple tests with metal API validation turned off. If I edit the scheme to turn off validation the program will run until the map is zoomed in on an area with lots of detail. Then it crashes.😢

Something like this example from the State of the Union, but powered by #MapKit. Hope this will be one of the sample apps.

I first used Previews or a simulator and was really surprised by the results: they were quite different from results in other apps I use for the same query.

I then launched my app on my phone... and results were almost the same (some POI filters are probably different)!

First screenshot is from simulator, second is from my phone.

Using MKLocalPointsOfInterestRequest in #MapKit on #iOS, is there a way to get the same results than Apple Maps?

For example, my request for beaches near Bonifacio with a 10km radius provides me *one* MKMapItem 😫. Apple Maps shows 29 results… 🤩

I've been messing around with MapKit a LOT trying to see if I can massage enough metadata out to build a game upon. I was really excited to find this circle distance in Placemarks as a kind of analog to city "size". Then I saw Tokyo's... 👀 Evidently there is a LOONG chain of islands that are part of Tokyo! #GameDev #iOSDev #MapKit
