Oh what a queer year it has been...
Most of our garden plants haven't known what time of year it actually is most of the time.
Lots of the #trees around us have been dropping their green leaves this week due to heat shock and a lack of moisture.
We have early #autumn #colour in quite a few of our #Japanese #Maples this year too.
This is a lovely one called Matzu Kagami and is always a reliable #scarlet #red in a cascading form.
It won't be long now before they show their #true #colours here.

We have a few Japanese #maples...and I am increasingly becoming drawn to the reticulated cultivars. These usually have brightly coloured spring foliage with nicely tinted veins throughout the leaves.
This one is called Sawa Chidori which is Japanese for Marsh Plover.
These constantly colour changing maples are certainly a talking point amongst the general indergrowth on the patio and this one in particular turns the most amazing red in October.
Very hard to miss.
Get one if you can.

One has to love #Phylogenomics and its fully resolved trees (first pic, based on a "supermatrix" combining complete plastomes, nrDNA and up to 500 nuclear loci)
But it can be a quick spoiler to look at the data behind them

One of the closest Provincal Parks to me here is #GoldenEars Provincial Park. Nice lakes, mountain views, creeks, and #hikes - so I visit it several times a year. This is one view of some Vine #Maples (Acer circinatum) hanging over the Lower Falls Trail.
