For today’s #MappyMondays, I’m trying something I have never done before: constructing WKT literals using the #Wikidata Query Service (#WDQS) in order to draw linestrings on a map!

So last week I added all of the routes flown by Air New Zealand and Air Chathams into Wikidata and now I get to see these airlines’ route maps using WDQS.

Because today is the 162nd birthday of the #Philippines’ national hero José Rizal, here’s a map of all the 39 extant National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) historical markers related to Rizal all over the world that we know of that we have added in @wikidata along with photos of 36 of them uploaded in #WikimediaCommons.

For today’s #MappyMondays, and because it is the 125th anniversary of the declaration of Philippine Independence 🇵🇭 from Spain 🇪🇸, here’s a map and photos of the two historical markers for the sites of the declaration (Aguinaldo Shrine) and where the 1st anniversary was celebrated (Holy Rosary Parish).

For today’s #MappyMondays, I’ll talk about what is probably my now second-most favorite map projection: the “Lee conformal tetrahedral projection – Concialdi rearrangement” aka the Lee–Concialdi projection. 🗺️

This projection was announced in 2020 by Luca Concialdi, the same person behind the Cahill—Concialdi bat map projection that is my current favorite. With the Lee variant projection, it shows that Luca’s preferences for good projections really aligns with my own!

#MappyMondays: After 1.5 years, I restarted my mini-project to improve the #OpenData for barangays in the #Philippines.

This time, I tackled the 11 barangays of the municipality of Jalajala, Rizal, mapping their borders in #OpenStreetMap, improving their #Wikidata items, and linking the two datasets with each other.

Another Monday means another #MappyMondays post!

Thirteen years ago today, the #OpenStreetMap #Philippines community held the Ortigas–Mandaluyong Mapping Party which had the goal of trying to map the buildings and POIs in one of the city’s business districts.

I was assigned to map area #1 and instead of taking photos or using GPS tracks (which would’ve been useless in the urban canyons), I resorted to using the tried-and-tested technique of writing down notes on a hand-drawn map!

It’s a new week and that means it’s #MappyMondays 🗺 once again!

For May 1st, we have these set of four 1:50000 scale maps from the National Mapping and Resource Information Authority or NAMRIA, which is kinda like the Philippine equivalent of the UK’s Ordnance Survey. More in the image alt description.

These were a Christmas gift from my manager at a former company who knew that I love maps. It was only recently that I was able to put them up on my wall. ☺

For this week's #MappyMondays here's a hand-drawn map that I created when I was maybe 15 or 16 depicting the world of the #Belgariad and #Malloreon epic fantasy series created by David and Leigh Eddings. This series was my first ever foray into the #fantasy literature genre and I recommend it for anyone who thinks LotR is a bit too "heavy".

P.S. I was interested in #maps ever since I was a kid so it's absolutely not a surprise that I eventually got involved in OpenStreetMap.

(Of course for some users, every day is mappy day [@TerribleMaps 👀], but for many of us that post about lots of different things, this would be a chance to for us to show how we love maps!)
