I'm a Mountain Leader. I love to teach navigation using a map and compass.
I guarantee that if you make a habit of "setting the map", you'll find using a map much easier.
"Setting the map" means to line it up with what's on the ground, and rotate it to stay lined up when you turn left or right. This sometimes feels like you are holding the map the wrong way up, but you aren't, it's actually the best way to read a map.
Always take the right kit and most importantly learn how to read a map…
